Forestry Technician

Serves as technician to assist with planning and implementation of forest insect and disease programs and exotic plant management, including application of pesticides and biological control agents. Assists with scheduling, organizing and carrying out projects associated with monitoring, collecting and compiling standardized survey data. Identifies specimens, performs pre and post control treatment checks within integrated Pest Management guidelines. -Responsible for organizing, maintaining and safely operating field equipment, instruments and machinery. Assists with property inventories, safety inspections and required record keeping. Demonstrates safe, efficient work methods. -Documents survey information using skills in cartography, global positioning systems, photography and graphics. Assists with organizing treatment and monitoring data into GIS- integrated database. Prepares written reports on progress and final products of assigned projects. Works with a diverse crew in varied field conditions. Applies pesticides safely, and performs strenuous, repetitive field work outdoors All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/21/2019-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
Forestry aid or technician work; Engineering, range, or soil conservation technician work that involved the application of cultural, resource conservation, or land management practices on non-forest or ranch lands when combined with knowledge of forestry operations and equipment; Farming or ranching work that involved application of cultural and soil and water conservation practices, including safety and use of equipment, and that provided a basic understanding of land use and forest or range fire control, prevention, or suppression work. You must include hours per week worked.-OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of a full 4-year courses of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wild land fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. You must include transcripts.-OR-Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.
