Extension Agent, Ag

Essential Job Duties: The individual selected for this position will be responsible for educational programming to groups and individuals in all areas of agricultural production, agronomic crops, local food systems, forage and pastures, beekeeping, pesticide education, natural resource conservation & adaptation to environmental change, and other areas as needed.

The agent provides agricultural producers with research based information on production, technology, economics and crop and animal culture and assist with problem solving on production issues. The agent assesses needs, plans and executes programs and evaluates the program results. The agent follows Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program goals and objectives.

Other Work/Responsibilities

The EBCI Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility which include NC Cooperative Extension and Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program.

The agent will provide educational programs and presentations to producers and other groups. Public speaking, planning and evaluation skills are a must.

Monthly reporting on education contacts and program impacts is required.

An understanding of grants, grant writing and reporting is required.

Other responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.

Minimum Experience/Education

One of the following educational requirements: A Bachelor s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2. 5 overall or a 3. 0 (based on a 4. 0 scale) in an agricultural or related field, A Bachelor s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3. 0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or Completion of a Master s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the Extension Agent s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.

Departmental Required Skills

A degree in an agricultural or related field is required. The successful candidate must possess a high degree of agricultural subject matter competence, have excellent people and communication skills, and have the necessary education and experience to lead a strong Extension education program in the assigned program areas.

Computer literacy including Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher is expected. Candidates should have excellent time and resource management skills, should be personable, and able to build networking coalitions.

Grant writing, reporting and management skills are required.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Significant course work or experience in agriculture and food systems is preferred. Education or experience in horticultural crops is a plus. Knowledge and experience in leadership, communications, educational presentations, public relations, marketing, effective use of technology, building relationships and networking with other agencies and groups are preferred.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
